SEN. MUSA ISAH CHAIRMAN SENATE COMMITTEE ON SOUTH-WEST DEV. COMMISSION INAUGURATE THE COMMITTEE.


The Senate Committee on South-west development commission, was inaugurated Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, with the task of becoming a space of innovation, inclusion inspiration and avenue for the provision of democracy dividends.
Chairman of the committee, Sen. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, in his inaugural speech said, “The occasion makes a significant milestone and beginning of a successful and impactful journey for all of us.”
He posited that the establishment of the committee was a fulfillment of section 62(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended) which the Senate deemed fit for the establishment, to appropriate, strengthening the community through sustainable initiatives and knowledge sharing in the country.
According to him, “Our goal is not just to function, but to thrive, make a difference and leave a lasting impact. He added the meeting set the tone for the future and to establish values, define priorities and lay out the frame work on how to work together with open dialogue, mutual respect and collective decision making.
While thanking the members for availing themselves at the inaugural meeting despite their being on reces, which demonstrate their commitment, interest and belief in the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assured that as chairman he will not only lead but also listen and collaborate in the discharge of duties and responsibilities.
Sen. Akintude told the committee members that its vision is to provide adequate oversight function for the good governance of the commission, to harness the vast potentials of the South-west region, promote economic growth, social justice and human capital development.
He further said the committee will work to address infrastructural deficits, enhance regional cohesion and foster business-friendly environment through robust legislative activities.
The chairman reminded the members that great things are not achieved in isolation. They are borne out of unity, determination and shared vision. He believe the committee has the rich people, the right purpose and right momentum to carry out its task. He added, the first assignment of the committee is the screening of presidential nominees for the positions of Chairman, Managing Director and Board Members of the South-west development commission schedule for the following day.
