“PSC Approves Mass Promotions for Police Officers Numbering 4,741”

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 4,741 Inspectors to higher ranks, alongside 38 Specialist Deputy Superintendents of Police and 29 Specialist Superintendents, in a significant development aimed at boosting morale and efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

‎‎According to a press release signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, dated July 23, 2025, the Commission’s Plenary Meeting, which concluded on July 21, 2025, in Abuja, saw the promotion of 4,708 Inspectors to unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police, while 33 were elevated to Senior Inspectors.

‎‎The Commission also approved the promotion of 38 Specialist Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents and 29 Specialist Superintendents to Chief Superintendents. Earlier in the meeting, the Commission had considered and approved the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners, and 28 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.

‎Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd mni), who presided over the meeting, charged the newly promoted officers to exhibit undiluted nationalism, zeal, and uncommon devotion to public good, especially in their interactions with the public. He reminded them that they are the “friend next door” and should live up to the expectations of Nigerians.

‎The PSC Chairman assured the officers that the Commission will continue to champion improvements in their conditions of service. The meeting was attended by notable members, including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, retired Justice of the Supreme Court; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd fdc); and Hon Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, retired Justice of the State High Court, among others.

‎‎Some of the newly promoted Inspectors include Rabiu Ibrahim, Izang Nyam, Nannim James, Chinelo Obinuku, Bariminas Auyatiya, Sabi’u Umar, Lawan Haruna, Opurum Patrick, Agbo James, and Georgewill Onwubiko, among others.

‎The promotions are expected to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force, as the officers take on new challenges and responsibilities in their respective roles.
